Rep. Keith Greiner of Lancaster has announced the allocation of state grants exceeding $470,000 to Akron Borough and the Earl Township Sewer Authority. The funding is part of the Local Share Account (LSA) program.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority, an agency within the Department of Community and Economic Development, distributes gaming revenue to local governments and programs annually. This year, Akron Borough received $245,879 for renovations to its municipal garage. Built in 1911, the facility will undergo significant updates including a new heating system, gutters, downspouts, doors, lighting, a wash bay and safety rinse station, floor drains, attic insulation, security lights and cameras, exhaust fans, painting, façade repairs and repaving.

Earl Township Sewer Authority was granted $225,000 for upgrades to nine sanitary sewer pumping stations to comply with Department of Environmental Protection monitoring requirements. The sites include Winding Oaks, Custer Avenue, Peters Road Industrial Lots, New Holland Elementary, Maple Grove, New Holland North and South locations, Garden Field and New Design Industrial Park. Planned improvements involve site-specific tasks such as new flow metering systems installation and remote monitoring systems setup.

"I advocated for these grants which will cover a significant portion of the total project costs," stated Greiner. "We all rely on working sanitary sewer systems and well-equipped public safety infrastructure to keep us and our communities safe and healthy. I am pleased the grants were approved."
