Rep. Dave Zimmerman from Lancaster/Berks has introduced a new bill aimed at expanding the range of raw milk products that farmers can sell under a raw milk permit in Pennsylvania. Currently, state law permits only the sale of raw milk and raw milk hard cheese with the necessary permits.

Zimmerman's proposed legislation seeks to allow those holding a raw milk permit to offer additional raw milk products for sale. The move comes in response to growing consumer interest in organic and natural food items, including those made from raw milk.

"We are seeing an ever-increasing consumer demand for organic and natural food products, including raw milk and raw milk products," Zimmerman stated. "People want foods with less processing and fewer chemicals. This legislation would allow for greater access to such products without compromising any of the raw milk safety standards set by the Department of Agriculture."

The bill is expected to be reviewed by the House Agriculture Committee soon.
