Rep. Keith Greiner has announced that Akron Borough and the Earl Township Sewer Authority have been awarded state grants totaling over $470,000 through the Local Share Account (LSA) program. The Commonwealth Financing Authority, part of the Department of Community and Economic Development, is responsible for distributing these funds from gaming revenue to local governments.
Akron Borough will receive $245,879 for renovations to its municipal garage, which has not seen major improvements since 1911. Planned upgrades include replacing heating systems, gutters, doors, lighting, and adding a wash bay and safety rinse station. Additional exterior improvements such as security lights, cameras, exhaust fans, painting, façade repairs, and repaving are also included.
The Earl Township Sewer Authority has been granted $225,000 to upgrade nine sanitary sewer pumping stations to meet Department of Environmental Protection monitoring requirements. These stations are located at various sites including Winding Oaks and New Holland Elementary. Upgrades may involve new flow metering systems and remote monitoring installations.
“I advocated for these grants, which will cover a significant portion of the total project costs,” said Greiner. “We all rely on working sanitary sewer systems and well-equipped public safety infrastructure to keep us and our communities safe and healthy. I am pleased the grants were approved.”
