HARRISBURG – Lancaster County representatives, including State Reps. David Zimmerman, Keith Greiner, and Tom Jones, have expressed strong opposition to the Lancaster Public Library's planned drag queen story hour.
In a joint statement, the representatives stated, "As state representatives in Lancaster County, we are strongly opposed to the Lancaster Public Library using taxpayer dollars to sexualize our young children by bringing in drag queen story hour. This is a totally political and immoral use of our money." They emphasized the need to protect children and criticized the event for pushing a radical and dangerous political agenda.
The representatives highlighted their concerns about the impact on children, stating, "Drag queens are an offensive portrayal of womanhood. They are not an artistic expression; they are an open mockery of women. Our children don’t need this type of exposure when going to their local public library."
Furthermore, they raised objections to the use of public funds for such events, stating, "At a time when many Pennsylvanians cannot even afford basic amenities, funding drag queen performances is the last place our money should be going." They expressed fears that events like these could jeopardize future funding for public libraries.
In closing, Representative Dave Zimmerman urged the public to voice their opposition to the drag queen story hour, saying, "We encourage the public to make their wishes known on this radical agenda and tell the Lancaster Public Library that drag queen story hour is not welcome in our community."
