City of Lancaster issued the following announcement on Apr. 5.
The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) announced that Todd Hutchinson, Interim Fire Chief of the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire has been accepted into the Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI). Chief Hutchinson competed with new fire chiefs and chief officers from across the country and Canada to become a member of the 2022 cohort program.
Chief Hutchinson has over 25 years of experience that spans across Lancaster County Fire and Emergency Services organizations in both career and volunteer settings. During this time, Chief Hutchinson’s roles included being a company officer, chief fire officer, incident commander, and hazardous materials team leader.
Chief Hutchinson has served in a variety of fire and emergency services positions including operations and administrative management. Prior to his appointment as Interim Chief, he was responsible for all day-to-day operations of A Platoon as the shift commander.
This is the tenth year that the Motorola Solutions Foundation has provided the IAFC with a grant to fund the program.
The Fire Service Executive Development Institute is a year-long leadership-development program. It was created and implemented by the IAFC to provide new and aspiring chiefs with the tools they need to have successful and productive tenures. The members of the cohort will meet four times in the coming year. One of the meetings will take place at the Fire Rescue International Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Between onsite sessions the cohort group will communicate using an online community. They will meet for their first session at the Maritime Conference Center, Linthicum, MD, this week.
“With his experience and commitment to public safety, it is no surprise that Interim Chief Hutchinson was selected for this honor, and I know he will be a great representative from the City of Lancaster at FSEDI. I look forward to the new knowledge and skills that he will bring back to the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire,” said Mayor Danene Sorace.
The IAFC’s Fire Service Executive Development Program has become the premier career- and leadership-development program in the fire and rescue services thanks to the generous support of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. Numerous chief officers from the previous cohort programs have been successful in achieving fire chief positions and serving as officer in several fire service organizations.
