HEMPFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT: Limited Time Mitigation Orders Announced For December 12 - January 4

Announceeee

Hempfield School District issued the following announcement.

Late Thursday afternoon, Governor Wolf announced further action to mitigate the imminent spread of COVID-19 and associated health hazards presented by the virus. These limited time mitigation orders go into effect on Saturday, December 12 at 12:01 a.m. and expire Monday, January 4 at 8:00 a.m.

The full order is available here, but there is limited impact for our school community. Specifically, interscholastic and intrascholastic athletics, as well as in-person extracurricular activities are suspended during this time. These extracurricular activities may be held virtually.

Per the Order,

  • “Interscholastic athletics” means all athletic contests, competitions, scrimmages, or practices conducted between or among school entities.
  • “Intrascholastic athletics” means all athletic contests, competitions, scrimmages, or practices conducted within a school entity.
  •  “Extracurricular activities” means voluntary activities sponsored, approved or permitted by a school entity or local education agency or an organization sanctioned by the local education agency other than sports and athletics, and include, but are not limited to, preparation for and involvement in public performances, contests, demonstrations, displays, and club activities.
Accordingly, the Georgelis Law Firm Stadium is also closed for public use during this time. The turn style will be locked after school hours, and the track lights will not be turned on at night.

While the Governor also announced restrictions for indoor and outdoor gatherings, the Order states that classroom instruction by school entities is not a “gathering” or “event.” Therefore, there is no change to our learning options as a result of this temporary mitigation order.

During his press conference, the Governor and various medical officials stressed the importance of proper mask wearing (covering both the mouth and nose), social distancing, and washing hands as often as possible. We ask for your continued support in these measures!

As a reminder, if a parent/guardian would like their student to move to virtual instruction for the remainder of the marking period/trimester, they can simply contact the building principal.

If we receive any updates regarding these Orders or other subsequent Orders, we will keep our school community updated.
