In a strong show of support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott's efforts to secure the southern border, Senate Republican leaders have announced a resolution calling on President Biden and other federal officials to take meaningful action to protect American citizens against the negative impacts of illegal immigration. The resolution, circulated by Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, Majority Leader Joe Pittman, Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin, and Majority Whip Ryan P. Aument, affirms Governor Abbott's lawful exercise of his Constitutional authority to defend his state and its citizens.
The resolution not only supports Governor Abbott but also urges Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to join dozens of other governors from across the country in backing Governor Abbott's actions. It further calls on the Biden Administration to stop fighting against Texas' efforts and instead provide resources to support Texas in securing the border.
Speaking about the resolution, the Republican leaders stated, "Many of us are hearing from our constituents who are concerned with this troubling crisis and who have expressed a desire for us to help take a stand against the Biden Administration's disastrous border policies. This resolution reflects our duty to uphold our oath to support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and ensure the safety of its citizens."
The lawmakers emphasized the urgent need for action, pointing to the strain on resources, the rise in fentanyl deaths, the tragedy of human trafficking, including the smuggling of children across the border, and the flow of illegal firearms and dangerous gang members. They attribute these issues to the "disastrous enforcement at our borders by the Biden Administration."
As illegal immigration continues to pose challenges and concerns, Senate Republican leaders are determined to address the issue head-on. With their resolution, they aim to rally support from fellow lawmakers and state officials to ensure the safety and security of American citizens.
