Washington, D.C.—On may 24, Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) voted in favor of H.J. Res. 45, which would overturn the Biden administration’s student debt bailout. H.J. Res. 45 passed by a vote of 218 to 203 and heads to the Senate for consideration.
The Biden administration’s proposals are estimated to cost nearly $600 billion or roughly $3,500 per taxpayer, according to the National Taxpayers Union.
“The Biden administration’s student debt bailout is deeply unfair to taxpayers in Pennsylvania’s 11th District. Only about 17 percent of people in Pennsylvania’s 11th District have a bachelor’s degree, and this bailout is asking taxpayers in our community to subsidize the education of others. A hardworking plumber shouldn’t be responsible for paying for the loans of those who knew what they were signing up for. President Biden is simply kowtowing to the far left of his party to push this clearly unfair abuse of executive authority,” said Rep. Lloyd Smucker.
