Rep. Tom Jones, a Republican representing Lancaster and Lebanon, has voiced his opposition to the $50.61 billion budget proposal introduced by House Democrats. In a statement released today, Jones criticized the spending plan for its perceived lack of transparency and fiscal irresponsibility.
“Today, the Democrat-controlled House forced a vote on a record-breaking $50.61 billion state budget by amending the bill just hours before scheduling it for consideration by the full House,” Jones stated. “This expedited timeline did not allow members to understand the changes made by the amendment, and I find this lack of transparency to be very troubling.”
Jones further expressed his disapproval of the proposed budget’s financial implications. “I voted ‘no’ on this spending bill, which does not come anywhere close to an agreed-upon budget,” he said. “It would leave us with a shortfall of $4 billion to $5 billion, even with the Democrats’ tax hikes included.”
He called for efforts toward achieving a balanced budget in Pennsylvania through economic measures such as utilizing energy resources and reducing regulatory burdens.
