More than $130,000 in grant funding has been awarded to fire and emergency medical services organizations in the district represented by Rep. Tom Jones (R-Lancaster/Lebanon). The grants were distributed through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.

“Firefighters and EMS providers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” Jones said. “These grants help ensure they have the equipment, training and facilities they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”

The following organizations received funding: Bainbridge Fire Co. ($14,488), Fire Department Mount Joy ($16,137), Friendship Fire & Hose Co. in Elizabethtown ($15,312), Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department ($16,137), Municipal Emergency Services Authority ($15,000), Pioneer Fire Co. in Marietta ($13,663), Rheems Fire Department in Elizabethtown ($16,137), Mount Gretna Community Volunteer Fire Co. ($13,045) and Lawn Fire Co. ($13,045).

The grant program is funded by proceeds from slot machine gaming rather than General Fund tax revenue. It was created by the Legislature and is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency along with the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Eligible projects include facility construction or renovation for fire or ambulance companies, equipment purchase or repair, training programs, recruitment and retention efforts, public education on fire prevention and debt reduction. All applicants who meet OSFC requirements receive funding after filing a grant agreement.

Jones represents northwestern Lancaster County and parts of Lebanon County as part of Pennsylvania’s 98th Legislative District according to his official website. He serves on committees related to agriculture, housing, local government and economic development while advocating for election integrity, parental involvement in education and fiscal responsibility according to his official biography. Jones previously chaired the East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors without raising taxes during his tenure as noted on his website.
